The Shine Award Scheme is an action-packed programme that provides a dynamic approach to developing recreational gymnastic skills on all 4 pieces of apparatus. A flexible and progressive programme to allow every gymnast the chance to shine.
There are 3 Levels of awards. Each level has different sections for progression, starting at Level 1.
Gymnasts are assessed 2-3 times a year, which means all gymnasts will have the opportunity to work their way through ‘up to’ 3 sections each year. The scheme has been closely developed in consultation with our coaches, to ensure gymnasts are able to work towards their award during regular sessions. Each level includes elements of all 4 women’s artistic gymnastics apparatus (bars, beam, floor, vault), so gymnasts can work consistently towards progressing their skills at all times.
For every section passed, gymnasts are be able to purchase a medal and certificate to celebrate their achievements. Medals with the certificates are available for £7.00, this is paid through an invoice which you will receive after ‘assessment month’ has been completed. (Please note all gymnasts take part in assessment week and this is included in your session fee, purchasing a medal and certificate is optional)
How will the gymnasts be assessed?
We hold ‘award assessment month’, around 2-3 times each year. During this time, your child’s coaches will be assessing the gymnasts, based on the level they are doing. In most cases, all the children in each group will be assessed on the same level – there may be the occasional exception to this. For each section, there are 10 moves/skills that the gymnasts must be able to demonstrate. All gymnasts will have to successfully perform a minimum of 8 out of the 10 skills, to achieve the award.
How can I track my child’s progress?
Progress is updated on our system and will be available to parents via our Thinksmart Parent Portal. You will need to download this app, if you haven’t already, you will receive a registration email. In the portal, you will be able to see all levels of the award, and the skills within each section that must be achieved to pass the award. You will also be able to view which section of the awards your child has achieved.
