Update on Coronavirus
There was a step change in the UK Gov guidelines on 16th March with the introduction of Social Distancing Guidelines and the Stay at Home advice for individuals and families with possible infection. They also updated their advice for schools, which we believe is best aligned with the operation of gymnastics clubs.
Our governing body, British Gymnastics, have updated their advice on 16th March, cancelling all events. In line with this decision SSoG have cancelled the Easter Competition, which was due to take place at the Newby Rd site on 29th March. They have also stated. “Please understand, all other British Gymnastics activities continue as usual. We will continue to review our activities daily based on advice and guidance from the Government and Public Health England”. We expect that the advice will be updated on a regular basis and will follow the UK Gov and BG advice.
The UK Gov advice for educational establishments is as follows (16th March 2020):
“Staff, young people and children should stay at home if they are unwell with a new, continuous cough or a high temperature to avoid spreading infection to others. Otherwise they should attend education or work as normal
If staff, young people or children become unwell on site with a new, continuous cough or a high temperature they should be sent home
Clean and disinfect regularly touched objects and surfaces more often than usual using your standard cleaning products
Supervise young children to ensure they wash their hands for 20 seconds more often than usual with soap and water or hand sanitiser and catch coughs and sneezes in tissues
Posters and lesson plans on general hand hygiene should be displayed.
Unless you have been directly advised to close by the local Public Health England Health Protection Team, we recommend all education settings remain open”
Below are the measures we currently have in place as well as recommended information for all users of the Newby Rd. centre.
- We support the advice that hand hygiene should be strongly promoted and encouraged. We have posters in key positions such that all members and visitors are reminded.
- We already have daily cleaning of all public areas and have added additional wipe down and disinfecting of high use areas such as banisters and door handles.
- Our procedures are constantly under review as best practice is updated by Public Health England and we would ask that all visitors to the club help to promote a clean environment for all.
- We would ask that all gymnasts wash their hands on entering and leaving the building. Younger children will need assistance from their parent/guardian.
The UK Gov is constantly updating it’s advice based on the emerging data and modelling and we will follow that advice. When either BG or UK Gov changes this advice we will take action to ensure that our members and visitors stay safe.
